Get Off Your Lazy Butt!
A foreigner can move to America, get a job, pay taxes, and, thereby, consider themselves taxpayers. But they don't have a legal right to vote and participate in our government.
Democracy is a participative form of government. That is, people must participate in the government for it to be a democracy. If you don't participate in your government then, by your own choice, you have no greater status than an alien taxpayer.
Ever wonder why certain factions in society seem to get more out of our government than others? It's because they are more involved with our government. Nobody, including the government, will be more concerned with your needs than you are. If you're not willing to spend the time and effort representing yourself to the government how can you expect the government to spend time and effort representing you?
Become a true citizen of democracy, instead of just a taxpayer. Vote and develope a habit of writing to your lawmakers. One brief letter each week to a state or US lawmaker would probably take less time than even one of the sorry shows you waste time watching on TV. Don't forget to also thank them when they do something good. Nobody wants to receive only negative mail.
If you're registered to vote then do so. If you're not registered to vote you have less than a month to call your county court house, request a Voter Registration Form, and get it back to them for you to vote in the upcoming primary elections (May 16). Be a real citizen. Or settle for being just another taxpayer if you want, but then don't complain when the government doesn't represent you.
